Joseph is a strong believer in the benefits of painting on location. “My interest in painting began at a very early age. I grew up on a small farm in Europe where most of the work was done manually and in harmony with nature. I still find the landscape produced by this fine balance, the favourite subject for my paintings.” Joseph exhibits a clarity of depiction and a faithful exactness to his subject matter tapping skillful drawing, masterful structural understanding and a remarkable watercolour technique to capture the enduring yet enigmatic tapestry of living.
Joseph is a member of the Victorian Watercolour Society and was its vice president from 1991 to 1994. He is a long-serving member of the Twenty Melbourne Artists’ Society and Australian Watercolour Institute. Joseph also teaches at Charles Sturt University and the Mitchell School of Arts.
